Fans enjoyed the Game One ceremonies, including an on-court, pregame performance by the University of Nebraska Cornhusker Marching Band. Rich with tradition, Husker fans continue to celebrate the first score of every home game with the release of red balloons into the sky. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, chartered in 1869, was one of the first institutions west of the Mississippi River to award doctoral degrees.

Seizing the importance of this game, Utah football asked fans to wear black as part of the team’s annual Blackout game dating back to the 2008 Sugar Bowl winning season when Utah hosted TCU. Utah and USC first competed against one another in football on November 20, 1915, at Cummings Field in Salt Lake City. The Utes and Trojans have met multiple times since that first game, including the 1993 Freedom Bowl and the 2001 Las Vegas Bowl, which the Utes won 10-6.

The Utah football program began in 1892 and has played home games at the beautiful Rice-Eccles Stadium since 1927. This game marked Utah's first-ever “Stripe the Stadium” promotion, asking Ute fans to wear either red or white, depending on the location of their seats.

Nicknamed the "Buffs", the Colorado Buffaloes were National Champions in 1990, and Ralphie, the live buffalo mascot, leads the team onto the field before every game. Folsom Field is the third highest stadium in college football with an elevation of 5,440 feet above sea level and has a capacity of 53,750. The university was founded in 1876 in Boulder, Colorado, and enrollment now exceeds 28,000 students.
